Umbraco 9 Creating your first page, document type, and template

I just created my first page using Umbraco 9.

I have happy to say not much if anything has changed here from what we are used to with Umbraco 7 and Umbraco 8. The backend looks much the same and the process too.

Create a page template

Create document type

Set the permissions

I didn't really see any differences. See my screen shots as an example of the homepage I created.

Umbraco 9 Document Type

As I said there seems to be no difference here. First thoughts though. Adding documents, page templates and general clicking around seems much faster in Umbraco 9 which is a good sign.

Again I didn't really noticed any differences at this point. All seemed to be the same as Umbraco 7 and Umbraco 8.

As with the other versions you can still still setup the content models in the same way.

@using Umbraco.Cms.Web.Common.PublishedModels;
@inherits Umbraco.Cms.Web.Common.Views.UmbracoViewPage<ContentModels.HomePage>
@using ContentModels = Umbraco.Cms.Web.Common.PublishedModels;

Actually, I usually like to do things differently. Instead I like to add my own controllers to run requests through there. This allows me to do some fancy stuff and keep all the .net code out of the razor views. That and I like to cast the model and that stage and pass out to the view a strongly typed model so my team can happily use intellisense to see all the page properties.

I will be looking to do the same with Umbraco 9 so I am certain I will do a follow up blog to description how to do this.

Umbraco 8 Master Page

Again, nothing of note to report here. Everything seem the same.

Layout = "Master.cshtml";

AND

@RenderBody()

Hey Peeps,

I'm an entrepreneur and web developer with a passion for coding. I absolutely love working with Umbraco CMS and appreciate the Umbraco community even more.

I've got 10 years+ .Net experience and 7 years+ experience working in the recruitment industry, both coding and marketing job websites. I wanted to use my skills to help give something back to this awesome community and so I decided to build UmbraJobs.com.

My vision & fundamentals

I want this website to be a place where Umbraco Professionals and Umbraco Partners can advertise their services but at the same time I want to filter out all the under-qualified freelancers & agencies that take up the biggest part of other job & freelancer websites. We've all worked hard to gain our Umbraco certifications, partnership status, and help build the Umbraco community to what it is today. I want to see everyone get rewarded for their efforts.
